Important FAQs Regarding Prometric Test Center Openings Across North America

NCBTMB has been in constant communication with our testing provider, Prometric, to determine next steps to resume testing at nationwide testing centers. Presently, Prometric intends to resume in-center testing, wherever possible, in the U.S. and Canada for all client programs, starting June 1st.

Prometric has listed NCBTMB as an essential test program. This means that, where possible, eligible NCBTMB examiners may register and/or complete exams prior to June 1st, if desired. Prior to scheduling your exam, we strongly encourage you to monitor and abide by your state and local mandates and guidelines.

Prometric’s Essential Test Program list will continue to be evaluated and updated on a rolling basis. NCBTMB will work with Prometric to communicate necessary updates to eligible exam candidates as things progress.

Applications for Board Certification

Candidates for Board Certification are welcome to complete the online application process, as usual. Processing time for applications requires approximately 2-3 weeks.

Once an application is processed, and exam eligibility is determined, NCBTMB and Prometric will work with candidates to determine available testing centers, assess current state/local mandates, and exam availability. If, for any reason, a candidate is unable to schedule an exam within the standard 90-day exam eligibility window, NCBTMB and Prometric will work together to extend the timeframe. The safety of our candidates and Prometric test center employees are of utmost importance.

What to Do if Your Exam is Cancelled/Rescheduled Amid COVID

If you are an eligible candidate affected by a Prometric test center closure, NCBTMB and Prometric will be in contact to help you reschedule your exam for a future date/time. Again, please consider your state and local mandates and guidelines prior to rescheduling your exam.

Furthermore, if you are sick or have been sick within the past two weeks, we strongly encourage that you do not show up to a Prometric test center to ensure the safety of Prometric test center employees and other test takers.
