JTA: Job Task Analysis

Massage and bodywork schools play a critical role in the development of NCBTMB examinations, which are reviewed and updated based on surveys completed by  instructors and practitioners. This process – known as Job Task Analysis – guarantees that exams are comprehensive and relevant to job competency and performance. It also serves to keep the exams within National Commission for Certifying Agencies accreditation guidelines.

The process begins with an NCBTMB task force creating an inventory of job-related tasks and knowledge areas. This inventory is used to develop a questionnaire that is administered to a randomly selected national sample. After gathering the responses, NCBTMB reviews the data and, if necessary, updates the content specifications for examinations.

NCBTMB has completed three such analyses over the years and is currently conducting another, which will be made available when it is completed. To read the 2003 JTAs, click here.
