New and Evolved Board Approved Continuing Education Provider Program Beginning

Continuing education is a key element for the ongoing success and progression of a massage therapist's career. We recognize that continuing education (CE) courses take time, effort, and cost money. And while most courses and instructors deliver on the expected value, others have not hit the mark.

In May 2011, a group of industry leaders—peer organizations, approved providers, certificants, school managers, and regulatory professionals met to discuss the state of continuing education, and provide input on areas of needed improvement on behalf of our therapists, instructors and profession. Working closely with these leaders for over a year, NCB is pleased to announce our new Board Approved Continuing Education Provider Program, designed to meet our profession's needs for assured value in CE.

As a therapist, this program provides you the confidence that:
instructors and their credentials have been thoroughly vetted, including passing a background check
courses offered have been reviewed and approved as quality courses valid toward recertification of your NCB credentials
courses will be categorized (beginner, intermediate and advanced) to help massage therapists determine their individual level of skill before signing up for a class

As a qualified instructor, this program provides you the opportunity to set yourself and your courses apart with Board Approved status. You'll be noted on our NCBTMB.org website and we'll look forward to helping therapists find you and your courses—allowing them to choose with confidence from among the best and most valid continuing education options.

Board Approved Continuing Education Provider Requirements

Initial and renewal applicants will submit instructor qualifications and course information via our new website, as noted in the new application, after successful completion of a background check. Organizations will no longer be accepted under the new program. Each CE instructor must apply under the individual status and submit every course and also instructor qualifications to teach each course. This information will be reviewed and vetted by a credible and dedicated NCBTMB volunteer peer review committee.
