NCBTMB Renews Kirin as CEO, Names Matthews Chair-Elect, Watts Treasurer

Burr Ridge, Ill. (April 19, 2016) – The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) announced today key leadership transitions with the renewal of Steve Kirin as Chief Executive Officer, Teresa Matthews, LMT, CPT, BCTMB, as Chair-Elect, and Dr. Stuart Watts, D.O.M., as Treasurer, effective immediately.

As the Board continues to develop a long-term strategic plan, Kirin was asked to renew his contract as Chief Executive Officer, despite his recent announcement. Kirin humbly accepted and resumed his role, and fully intends to continue living out his personal mission to audit and restructure all facets of the organization to achieve greater efficiencies, financial stability, and purpose within the profession. Since 2013, Kirin has embraced “steering the ship” through uncharted waters with bold decisions to exit licensure, partner with an international specialist examination board, and introduce specialty certificates, among many other notable achievements.

Matthews, now Chair-Elect, is a Licensed and Board Certified Massage Therapist, Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, National CE Provider, and World Champion Athlete. For nearly 20 years, she has owned and operated a successful massage school in Jacksonville, Florida. Today, she continues to teach advanced massage training and her Personal Training Certification Program.

Dr. Watts, now Treasurer, is licensed as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine in New Mexico and Hawaii. He began studying Chinese medicine in San Francisco in the 1960’s, and was the founder of five institutes of Asian medicine. Watts is the Consumer Representative on the Board.

All leadership transitions were voted on and approved by the NCBTMB Board of Directors on Friday, April 15, 2016.

Together, the NCBTMB Board of Directors is confident such leadership transitions further align the organization to continue living out its mission to define and advance standards with a focus on Board Certification, its Approved Provider for Continuing Education Program, Assigned School Code Program, and, most recently, Specialty Certificates.
