NCBTMB Announces Oncology Massage Specialty Certificate Pilot Program, Partners with S4OM and CATA NYC

Burr Ridge, Ill. (March 2, 2018)—The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) announced today the profession’s first pilot Oncology Massage Specialty Certificate Program in partnership with the Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM) and the Center for the Advancement of Therapeutic Arts (CATA) in New York, available immediately.

NCBTMB Releases 2018 Certification Board Election Results

Burr Ridge, Ill. (March 1, 2018)—The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) is proud to announce that 95.8% of eligible members voting in the NCBTMB Certification Board Election approved the slate of new board members to take office on March 1, 2018.

The new board members are Kia H. Countess, DNP, MSN, RN, CNE, Nathan Nordstrom, LMT, LMP, BCTMB, Grant J. Rich, Ph.D., LMT, BCTMB, and Portia B. Resnick, Ph.D., ATC, LMT, BCTMB. They join current Certification Board President, Teresa M. Matthews, LMT, CPT, BCTMB.

NCBTMB Issues Call for Candidates, Seeks Two Practitioner Members and One Public Member to Join its Certification Board

Burr Ridge, Ill. (November 1st, 2017)—The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) announced today it is seeking candidates to fill three available positions on its Certification Board. The organization seeks two (2) Practitioner Members and one (1) Public Member. Candidates must submit a completed application by Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 5:00pm CT.

Certificants will elect two Practitioner members and one Public Member to the Certification Board in February 2018. One Practitioner position is a two (2) year term, and one is a three (3) year term; the term of the Public Member is two (2) years. All terms begin with the Board’s annual meeting in March 2018.

NCBTMB and The Heart Touch Project Launch Pain and Palliative Care Specialty Certificate Program

Burr Ridge, Ill. / Santa Monica, Calif. (October 30, 2017)—The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) announced today a partnership with The Heart Touch Project (THTP) to introduce the profession’s first Pain and Palliative Care Specialty Certificate Program.

Under the new partnership, candidates become eligible for the credential upon completion of the Heart Touch Pain and Palliative Care Massage Therapy Training Program or upon completion of the NCBTMB Portfolio Review process, both of which culminate with the NCBTMB Specialty Exam.  With the credential, therapists can provide these critical services to individuals in hospital and hospice settings.

NCBTMB Publishes Revised Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice

Burr Ridge, Ill. (October 4, 2017)—The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) announced today its Certification Board approved revisions to the NCBTMB Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, effective immediately.

Led by the NCBTMB Ethics and Standards Committee, revisions to the NCBTMB Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice were necessary to further Certificants' understanding of responsibilities respective to each of the Codes and Standards. 

All active Board Certified Massage Therapists are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with the updates as soon as possible.
