Welcome to the New NCBTMB!

November 12, 2012 by Mike Williams

It’s such an exciting time for NCB and the massage profession!

After more than 18 months of reinventing a better NCB, we’re finally at the cumulative launch. I’m delighted to let you know we’ve upgraded all aspects of our operations and communications, as well as revamped our products and service offerings to better serve you, the industry, and the public.

Many of the improvements are accessible to you through our new website where you’ll find a new career management system for exam scheduling and streamlined electronic transactions happening instantly (instead of weeks).

In addition to the new site launch and the continuing availability of our time-tested exams for use by states in satisfying part of their licensure requirements:

• Our new Board-Approved Provider / Continuing Education Program promises to raise the quality of ongoing CE, therefore ensuring more value to the profession.

• Our new Board Certification exam launching in 2013 provides an opportunity for dedicated therapists to distinguish themselves with the highest credential in the profession.

• Our new online practice exam and study tool—which launched earlier this year to a very positive response; and will now being offered with introductory pricing for the first month when you register for one of our exams starting in 2013.

• Our new opt-in Sounding Board, along with vibrant and active social media channels, are providing meaningful engagement within the industry while ensuring optimal communications between NCB and the profession.

Collectively, we’ve successfully transformed the interface between NCB and you. Come visit the new site. Open your career management account. Enter our “Value of Certification” video contest. Share a note on our social media. And most importantly—keep talking, because we’re listening. And we look forward to ongoing communication as we continue together, steadfastly forward in the elevation of our profession.

Everything looks expensive & slick, what will be different? How will the public or physicians know to ask if a MT is board certifed?
They don't even ask if I am licensed! All the public wants to is "how much my masage costs?"

With the new Board-Approved Provider program how will home study work - there are no "instructors" for home study?

Anyone reviewing the courses and provider information should be required to sign confidentiality agreements - is this being done?

The people reviewing the courses cannot be providers of continuing education - this would be a severe conflict of interest. Is this the case?

Why was this program launched when the basis for it isn't even completed and no one on staff has any answers to provider questions?

I hope that the Board will provide a reply on this blog so that all providers can see what will be happening.

With additional difficulties being created, maybe providers should just get the courses approved through the State Boards and not bother with the NCBTMB?

Awaiting your response,

NCBTMB does not offer an international certification. NCBTMB offers a licensing exam and the Board Certification exam. Not clear on what is meant by through continuing education approved institutions but if you are looking for NCBTMB approved providers who teach continuing education we do have a search on our website to find those approved providers. Thank you!
