Board of Directors

The NCBTMB Board of Directors manages and directs the affairs of the National Certification Board, Board Certification, volunteer committees, publications and examinations. These members also govern NCBTMB's policies and procedures with a mission of defining and advancing the highest standards in the massage therapy and bodywork profession.


Leena Guptha, D.O., BCTMB, MBA (Hons)
Lehigh Valley, PA (term ends December 31, 2016)

Dr. Leena Guptha BCTMB, received her degree in Osteopathic and Naturopathic Medicine from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine in London (formerly British College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy), a Masters in Complementary Therapy from the University of Westminster, graduated from the British College of Acupuncture with a Licentiate in Acupuncture, is a Board Certified Hypnotherapist and graduated with honors as a Valedictorian from her Masters in Business Administration program. She was formerly the Dean of Massage Therapy at Lehigh Valley College in Pennsylvania and taught at the National University for Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois, for eight years.

Dr. Guptha is passionate about advancing education, securing regulation and facilitating the profession at large toward global recognition. Dr. Guptha is an NCB approved provider and dedicates her time to promoting and teaching Ethics, Research, Musculoskeletal alignment techniques and Business practices. Her professional career spans more than 20 years and has encompassed primary care, academic appointments and the practice of massage therapy. In the past, she has presided as Dean of Academic Affairs and Campus President and managed multi-disciplinary education departments in healthcare, business and technology. As an independent self regulator/evaluator, she served as a national accreditation evaluator for degree programs. In addition, she has been an active member of the American Massage Therapy Association, which she presided as national president in 2007-2008.

As a driving force in the massage industry, Dr. Guptha’s personal mission has been to facilitate the integration of complementary alternative therapies into primary healthcare settings. As an incoming chair of NCBTMB, and with the help of Board of Directors, our dedicated volunteers and staff, she aims to carry the torch for the profession advancing educational standards in massage therapy, promoting the value of board certification, securing quality continued education providers and classes, which universally supports education, training and the practice of massage therapy and bodyworks.


Bruce Baltz, LMT, BCTMB
Loxahatchee, FL (term ends December 31, 2018)

Bruce Baltz is Board Certified and a licensed massage therapist in New York and Florida. He is an internationally recognized educator with over 28 years of experience in the fitness and bodywork industry. An NCBTMB volunteer since 2007, Baltz has served on the Approved Provider Committee.

He has also held volunteer positions with the Florida State Massage Therapy Association and American Massage Therapy Association.

In 1994, Baltz founder of SpiriPhysical, received his massage diploma from Swedish Institute in New York City. In 1999 he developed and started to teach Deep Tissue Stone Massage workshops with LaStone Therapy. In 2007, Baltz added Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) to his teaching repertoire and developed AIS The Spa Method. SpiriPhysical is now involved in developing massage education for spa trade shows and bringing more depth into spa menus.


W. Randy Snyder, MS, DC, CMT, BCTMB
Carlsbad, CA (term ends December 31, 2016)

Randy has 17 years of clinical practice, almost 12 years of managed healthcare experience, and years of teaching both massage and healthcare administration.

Randy has earned a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Southern California University of Health Sciences and a Master of Science - Healthcare Administration from Independence University. Randy has also served on the NCBTMB Board of Directors from 2008 - 2010.

Dr. Stuart Watts, D.O.M.
Albuquerque, NM (term ends December 31, 2017)

Dr. Watts is currently licensed as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine in New Mexico and Hawaii. He began studying Chinese medicine in San Francisco in the 1960’s, with further studies in Texas, Boston and England. Dr. Watts is the founder of 5 institutes of Asian medicine: Academy of Oriental Medicine – Austin (AOMA), Southwest Acupuncture College (SWAC), Institute of Traditional Medicine (ITM) (later the International Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (IICM), Santa Fe College of Natural Medicine (acupuncture program) and North American Academy of Asian Medicine (NAAAM).

Dr. Watts obtained his Doctorate degree in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College. A practitioner for over 40 years, he has also been a teacher in various forms of alternative medicine for over 35 years. Dr. Watts is a concerned practitioner of the healing arts and has worked for both practitioner rights and the rights of the public.


Teresa M. Matthews, LMT, CPT, BCTMB
Jacksonville, FL (term ends December 31, 2017)

Teresa is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, National CE provider and World Champion Athlete. For the past 18 years, she has owned and operated a successful Massage School in Jacksonville, Florida. Today, she continues to teach advanced massage training and her Personal Training Certification Program.

Teresa graduated from the Arlington School of Massage in Jacksonville in 1996. With over 30 years of experience in the fitness industry, Teresa has taken healthcare to a new level by organizing Health, Wellness & Fitness Professionals, Inc. Her practice brings optimal therapy to her clients by combining massage and personal training bodywork. She specializes in Kinesiology, Deep Tissue/Sports Massage, Strength Training and Stretching.

Michael McGillicuddy LMT, CKTI, BCTMB
Winter Park, FL (term ends December 31, 2016)

Michael McGillicuddy is Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, a licensed massage therapy in Florida and is the President of USA Pro-Sports, a continuing education company, which conducts workshops throughout the world. Michael is also an internationally recognized speaker and has presented in the USA, Europe and Australia.

Michael graduated from the Florida School of Massage Therapy in 1984. In September of 1986, Michael became the owner and administrator of the Central Florida School of Massage Therapy in Winter Park, Florida, where he teaches and practices massage therapy today. Additionally, Michael designed and conducts a Sports Internship Program at the University of Central Florida for graduate students of massage therapy.

The World Massage Festival inducted Michael into their Hall of Fame in 2011 and awarded him Teacher of the Year in 2012.

Julia Young Hayes, CPOI, LMT, M.Ed, BCTMB
Meridian, MS (term ends December 31, 2015)

Julia Young Hayes is the owner of Victoria’s Water’s Aquatic/Massage Services and maintains a busy private practice. She has been a licensed massage therapist for 11 years – the same duration as her volunteer service to NCBTMB.

She has served on a number of NCB committees giving her great insight into the programs and policies of the organization. She graduated from the South Louisiana Institute of Massage in New Orleans, received her Master of Education degree from the University of New Orleans and was inducted into the World Massage Festival Hall of Fame in 2010.

Brenda Jeanne Baker, BA, MA, LMT, BCTMB
Cape Coral, FL (term ends December 31, 2018)

A current NCBTMB Approved Provider and Board Certificant, Brenda Jeanne brings over five years of uniquely combined mind and body wellness practice, including becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2009.

Her knowledge applies scientific principles of behavior change to real world situations to help individuals gain needed skills to achieve their goals using positive, socially appropriate methods. In addition, Brenda Jeanne also previously owned and operated her own massage practice, SPAlembia, in Florida, and now acts as the founder and owner of Mandy’s: THE Place for Kids, where she works to care for children with disabilities.

Veronica Stern, MS, BS, CSCS, BCTMB
Minneapolis, MN (term ends December 31, 2018)

A Board Certified massage therapist, personal trainer, and strength and conditioning specialist for nearly ten years, Veronica brings various vital perspectives as a professional, educator, and researcher. She is deeply passionate about health promotion, science of the human body, and growing as an educator.

Veronica received her Master of Science degree in Biokinesiology from the University of Southern California in 2012, and since has envisioned an academic landscape in which massage therapists have access to higher education with opportunities to specialize in modalities such as medical massage, neuromuscular therapy, and more.
