NCBTMB Job Task Analysis (JTA) Call for Comments

In 2007, NCBTMB commissioned a job task analysis study for its exams: the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB) and the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage (NCETM).

A job analysis is designed to obtain descriptive information about tasks performed on a job and the knowledge needed to perform those tasks competently, primarily for the purpose of creating content specifications for credentialing examinations.

After the job analysis was completed, an NCBTMB task force made up of practitioners and educators reviewed the results and presented content outlines for the exams to the NCBTMB Board of Directors. The Board reviewed the specifications and presents them here so interested parties can provide input before they are officially adopted and used to create future forms of the exams.

Please click on the links below to read draft content specifications for the exams and provide your comments. This call for comments will close August 31, 2008.

After reviewing all comments, the NCBTMB Board will consider the official adoption of updated content specifications for the exams. If approved, the NCBTMB Board of Directors will consider a timetable for implementing changes to the content of the exams, as well as any related changes to the eligibility criteria associated with applying for certification. All parties should note that any changes to test content and/or eligibility criteria would be implemented several months (e.g. 18-24) following an announcement to the general public in order to provide stakeholders sufficient time to prepare.
