Board of Directors


The nine members of the NCBTMB Board of Directors supervise, control and direct the affairs of the national certification program, its committees, publications and examinations. They also determine NCBTMB policies and procedures.

Chair
Neal Delaporta, LMT, NCTMB
Danbury, CT (term ends December 31, 2010)


Neal Delaporta is a retired state agency police officer with experience in all facets of law enforcement. An honors graduate of the National Holistic Institute in California, he passed the NCE in 2000 and then returned to Connecticut to establish a private practice as a massage therapist and holistic health educator.

While preparing and presenting adult education courses in his local communities, he was invited to join the Continuing Education Panel of the NCBTMB in 2001 and accepted an appointment as Chair of the Continuing Education/Recertification Committee in early 2005.

Alexa Zaledonis, LMT, CPT, NCTMB
Annapolis, MD (term ends December 31, 2011)
 
Alexa Zaledonis is the owner/operator of Even Keel, a wellness spa employing seven massage therapists in Annapolis, Maryland. A graduate of the Baltimore School of Massage, she passed the NCE in 2002 and spent the past four and a half years building a practice in her community. Zaledonis is a certified Lotus Palm Thai Yoga Massage practitioner and instructor and opened a school for Thai Yoga in January 2008.
 
A former Certified Public Accountant, Alexa specialized in healthcare and nonprofits. She received her Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut.

Michele Baker, LMT, NCTMB
Jackson, MS (term ends December 31, 2010)


Michele Baker is owner/operator of To Your Health! Therapeutic Massage Associates, an exclusive, referrals-only outcall service. Her practice offers Swedish massage, pregnancy massage, reflexology treatments, deep tissue, neuromuscular therapy, aromatherapy, Reiki and ear candling. She is currently working on a reference manual of massage and healthcare treatments for common ailments. 

For three years, she taught at therapeutic massage at a local college and mentored dozens of therapists. 

Baker received a bachelor's degree from University of Arkansas and graduated at the top of her class from Mississippi School of Therapeutic Massage.

Public Members

David Banks, PhD
Washington, DC (term ends December 31, 2010)


David Banks is a faculty member at the University of Maryland, where he teaches psychology and behavioral and social science. He has published collaborative articles in American Journal of Public Health, Journal of Black Psychology, and Transfusion.

Banks has over 20 years of experience providing evaluation research, technical assistance, and training services to not-for-profit, for-profit, and government health and human service organizations.

He earned a PhD from University of Maryland, an MPH from University of North Carolina, an MSSW from University of Texas, a BSN from Georgetown University, and a BA from LeMoyne College.

Leonard Gaffga, MBA
Alpharetta, GA (term ends December 31, 2009)

Leonard H. Gaffga is a professor of global economics at Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, GA. In 2000, he became a full-time faculty member, with an appointment at the University of Jordan (Amman, Jordan) teaching production operations management and management information systems to both graduate and undergraduate students. 

Throughout a career at IBM, he specialized in software for manufacturers and developed a major IBM software product, MAPICS. He published several technical articles on production scheduling and plant floor operations before retiring from IBM in 1997.

He holds a BA in economics from Yale University and an MBA in international business from the Wharton Business School. He is also retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Monica J. Reno, AS, LMT, NCTMB
The Villages, FL (term ends December 31, 2009)


Monica Reno has been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 1984 and nationally certified since 1998. She is the co-owner of Tuscany Day Spa & Salon, a full- service day spa and salon. Before then, she operated Allied Therapeutic Protocols (ATP Massage), where she also served as the director of education for the Central Florida School of Massage Therapy.

In 1999, Reno joined NCBTMB as an item writer for the Examination Review Committee, and later was appointed as a subject matter expert in the areas of anatomy/physiology, clinical assessment and application, pathology, sports and orthopedic massage. She served on the committee until elected to the Board of Directors. She also served on the Job Survey Analysis Task Force.

Reno is an American Red Cross Certified Instructor and a USA Triathlon Coach.

Christy Schumacher, NCTMB
San Diego, CA (term ends December 31, 2012)

Christy Schumacher has a strong background in both alternative medicine and academic medical research. Most recently, she worked as an intern for the Survivors of Torture International, where she developed a massage integration program, and as a clinical team member for ShaktiRising, a center for young women in recovery.

She is also an active volunteer, and has donated her time and expertise to the Center for Community Solutions, California Youth Crisis Line and Creative Living Solutions.

Schumacher received a BA from the University of California, San Diego in 2007 and a diploma from the School of Healing Arts in 2004.

Dr. W. Randy Snyder, DC, MS, CHCQM, NCTM
Oceanside, CA (term ends December 31, 2010)

Dr. W. Randy Snyder is a licensed chiropractor and massage therapist. He currently works for a specialty healthcare insurance company performing utilization management, quality review and credentialing. In addition, he teaches healthcare administration courses for the University of Phoenix and is owner/director of the College of Integrative Healthcare.

He has held volunteer positions on the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation and the Massage Therapy Foundation, and served as keynote speaker for both Oregon and Washington American Massage Therapy Association conventions

Snyder received a DC degree from Southern California University of Health Sciences, an MS degree in healthcare administration and a massage certificate from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine.

Susan S. Toscano, NCTMB
Groton, CT (term ends December 31, 2012)

Susan Toscano has a long history of supporting – and serving – NCBTMB. She was first elected to the Board of Directors in 1997, named Treasurer for 1998-1999 and held the position of Chair from 2000-2001. In addition, she was a member of NCBTMB’s Strategic Planning Committee, 1999-2001, and served as an NCBTMB School Outreach Coordinator from 2001-2002.

She also served as Chair of the Membership Committee of AMTA’s Council of Schools and is currently an On-site Team Evaluator for the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation.

Toscano earned a BA from Norwich University and a diploma from the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy.
